VDMV Group started in 2003 when Izak van der Merwe purchased the group’s first property in the Okavango industrial area in Kraaifontein, Cape Town. With a successful career as a financial advisor behind him, Izak’s skill in matching timing to opportunity saw him buying his first parcel of vacant land in 2005. This land now makes up 55% of the Northgate Estate at the intersection of the N1 and M5 just outside Cape Town – one of the best-situated business developments in the Western Cape, and a premium light industrial/retail/DIY destination.
2003 saw the introduction of Gary Luyt to Izak van der Merwe. Gary is a respected property broker, and it was this collaboration of skills that cemented a lasting relationship and took the business to the next level.
In 2006, VDMV purchased the land that now houses the most strategically positioned light industrial park in Cape Town – the 35-plus hectare Brackengate Business Park. Set on the ‘golden triangle’ surrounded by the R300, N1 and N2, investor and owner-occupier interest has been clear from the start, when 40% of phase 1 (77 erven) was sold in a 24-hour investment rush.
In late 2008 Craig Myburgh joined the team, followed in 2014 by Wihan de Villiers and Bennie Rheeder, who brought on board strong development, banking, financial and legal backgrounds.
Rounding out the team, in 2018 Xander Rau and Tyrone Kleinjan joined VDMV, adding a wealth of experience in estimation, project and construction management to the already impressively skilled team.
